Bradford academic organises Northern Lights trip

The Northern Lights – the solar firework display seen occasionally in the northern night sky – is due to vanish, some scientists believe. One of them is Bradford University’s Dr John Baruch. He is now trying to organise a trip to Norway at the end of November in the hope of seeing what may be the last spectacular light display in the sky for the forseeable future.

The lights, known as the Aurora Borealis, happen when winds from magnetic storms on the sun discharge high-energy particles into the gases of the earth’s upper atmosphere.
He is hoping to set up a special weekend visit to the Norwegian city of Tromso, leaving from Leeds-Bradford International Airport or Manchester in February for £700.
