The website for the missing child alert system Amber Alert is
back up and running after conservatives called attention to its being
down over the weekend.
A spokesperson for the Justice Department on Monday said the Amber Alert system itself was never down, with two alerts issued over the weekend, and said the site had been restored to
prevent confusion.
A spokesperson for the Justice Department on Monday said the Amber Alert system itself was never down, with two alerts issued over the weekend, and said the site had been restored to
prevent confusion.
The website, amberalert.gov, was redirecting visitors
to a Department of Justice site that read, “Due to the lapse in federal
funding, this Office of Justice Programs (OJP) website is unavailable.” A
number of media organizations, including Washington Examiner,
and conservatives picked up on the message, accusing President Barack
Obama of using the government shutdown to pick and choose what pain to
inflict.
